In case you missed it, last week U.S. Senate candidate Josh Hawley talked with Brian Kilmeade on Fox News Radio about his support for President Trump’s nominee for CIA Director, Gina Haspel, a highly-qualified 33-year veteran of the CIA who has bipartisan support for her bid.
Again, we are seeing the same-old dance from McCaskill – who is waiting for her vulnerable Democrat colleagues to say whether they’ll support Haspel before going on the record herself. As of today, Sens. Joe Manchin and Joe Donnelly have come out in support.
If you think she’s simply weighing the public concerns about Haspel, consider the fact Sen. Tom Cotton last week called out the Democrats who voted for President Obama’s CIA pick, John Brennan, five years ago:
Democrats supported Brennan in 2013 and knew about his tenure during the Bush administration, while Haspel was being held more responsible for those interrogation methods despite being further down the totem pole. (Washington Free Beacon, 5/9/18)
This isn’t about being reasonable; it’s hypocrisy. For McCaskill, this is a deliberate game. She does this with every single Trump nominee.
- Why can’t Sen. McCaskill tell Missouri how she plans to vote, before going to the Senate floor?
- Will Sen. McCaskill tell us before her pal Heidi Heitkamp makes a decision, or will she wait for her, too?
- Why is Sen. McCaskill waiting on Haspel when she supported Brennan, who was Haspel’s superior during the interrogation tactics in question?
It’s not that complicated, Senator…
